Iranian computer reportedly downloads blueprints for Obama's helicopter
Tuesday, March 3, 2009
A draft copy of the blueprints for President Obama's helicopter Marine One were allegedly downloaded from a P2O network and onto a computer in Tehran, Iran, according to a security company.
Security officials who discovered the leak told SCMagazineus.com the compromised file contains a detailed analysis of the anti-missile defense mechanisms used on the helicopter. The file also includes communications between the DoD and the Navy regarding the upgrade of the avionics and computer packages on Marine one.
The official told the news provider the reason the information was not classified because it was a draft copy.
Initially, the file was discovered last fall with the security company alerting the White House and working with the federal agents to take down the file and analyze it. However, the file was discovered on February 25 hosted on an Iranian IP address, which appears to be out of the jurisdiction of U.S. authorities.
While P2P networks are popular among music fans, research has found the programs host numerous files of sensitive information. Some security experts suggest companies combat the network with more than a firewall and install a network-based intrusion prevention systems and implementing email archiving as a form of data loss recovery.
